McCleskey and Associates Architects consider sustainable design as a part of its core philosophy. Hilton Head Island was originally developed in the 1950s with the land planning and design principles to protect the environment and compliment the natural features. McCleskey and Associates believes that "sustainable design" is simply following the principles of good design by creating buildings appropriate to the climate and environmental factors with the capacity to endure. When choosing building materials, we look at materials with a long life expectancy, quality and low maintenance. We also want materials that identify a building as original. Material selection is defined by those elements that compliment the building shell.

McCleskey and Associates has a LEED Accredited Professional on staff. We are experienced with the LEED requirements and proficient at energy efficient design solutions. We design to minimize the use of the earth's resources. We explore and present sustainable design options including cost / benefit analysis to our clients. We look at each of the major systems: electrical, HVAC, plumbing as well as the building envelope to evaluate its potential for increased energy efficiency.

McCleskey and Associates' standard design procedure is an evaluation of:

  • energy efficiency
  • natural lighting
  • indoor air quality
  • recycled materials
  • environmentally friendly materials
  • solar and wind power
  • regenerative / adaptive uses for existing facilities.
